“The misery of man appears like childish petulance, when we explore the steady and prodigal provision that has been made for his support and delight on this green ball which floats him through the heavens.” These lines speak to me because unless you’re born into slavery, destitute poverty, or a warzone, life offers a bounty of things from which to draw joy. Even the farmer who lacks material possessions may find pleasure and comfort in moving across fields and pasture lands under blue skies. The world is full of comforts and joys ranging from experiences shared with others to awe inspiring sights. The following statements after this quote even talk about the ease and power we have over experiencing the world as we choose by travel and technology, yet we all, at some point or another, choose to get swept up in the little things. It is not the fact that there are a million other girls in the world that strikes the broken guy, but the hard break up he went through. It’s not the pleasures of succeeding in six classes, but the sorrow of failing the seventh. To some extent, everyone experiences a shallow perception that focuses on the negative, but when taken into the bigger picture it seems irrelevant and minor. This is what that quote is all about and the fact that it is in very understandable terms makes it all the more true and deep.

Patrick-
I like your interpretation of the lines of text that you chose. It was very interesting how said that things may seem large at one point but in the grand scheme of things they are very small. It is an interesting way of looking at it. Nice job!
